Kenmore Range/Oven F13 Error — Oven Temperature Sensor (RTD) Fault
The F13 error code on Kenmore ranges indicates the oven temperature sensor (RTD probe) is reading outside the expected resistance range. Unlike F10 (runaway) or F11 (self-clean runaway), F13 is a non-emergency sensor fault that prevents the oven from operating until the sensor is replaced.
RTD Sensor Testing
- Locate the RTD probe inside the oven (a thin metal rod extending from the back wall).
- Disconnect the two-wire connector at the back of the range.
- Measure resistance with a multimeter at room temperature.
- Expected value: approximately 1,100–1,200 ohms. Values outside 900–1,300 ohms indicate sensor failure.
Replacement
The RTD sensor is one of the easiest range parts to replace — it is held in place by two screws and connected with a simple wire harness. Many homeowners complete this repair themselves. Our technicians can replace the sensor and verify proper oven temperature calibration after installation.
