Kenmore Range/Oven F6 Error — Control Board Communication Fault
The F6 error code on Kenmore ranges indicates a communication failure between the main control board (ERC) and a secondary component — most commonly the keypad/touchpad assembly or the electronic clock module. When the two boards cannot communicate, cooking functions become unavailable.
Symptoms
- Range functions normally sometimes but randomly displays F6
- Clock display freezes or shows incorrect time
- Keypad buttons unresponsive in specific areas
- F6 appears during cooking or when setting functions
Diagnosis
- Perform a full power reset (breaker off for 5 minutes).
- Press and hold the Clear/Off button for 3 seconds.
- Inspect the ribbon cable connecting the keypad to the control board for damage or misalignment.
Repair
F6 most commonly requires replacement of the keypad/touchpad assembly (the membrane panel with buttons) rather than the more expensive main control board. Our technicians test both components before recommending a replacement path.
