Kenmore Range/Oven F8 Error — Keypad Button Stuck
The F8 error code means the control board has detected a key that appears to be continuously pressed (shorted). This typically occurs when the keypad membrane deteriorates and an area of the touchpad makes continuous contact, or when a button is physically stuck.
Common Causes
- Grease or food residue seeping under the keypad membrane
- Moisture causing the membrane to sag and make contact
- Physical damage to the touchpad surface
- Normal wear causing membrane delamination in high-use button areas
Resolution
- Clean the keypad surface thoroughly with a damp cloth — do not use harsh cleaners.
- Press each button individually to feel for any that stick or do not spring back properly.
- Press and hold Clear/Off and observe whether F8 clears.
Keypad Replacement
If F8 returns after cleaning, the keypad membrane has failed and must be replaced. This is a common Kenmore range repair that our technicians complete in under an hour with model-specific keypad assemblies.
