Kenmore Dryer F08 Error — Heating Relay on Control Board
The F08 error code points to the heating relay on the main control board. Unlike F07 (a physical element failure), F08 means the relay that switches power to the heating element has malfunctioned — it may be stuck open (no heat) or stuck closed (continuous heating).
Stuck Open vs. Stuck Closed
A relay stuck open means no heat even with normal element and thermistor readings. A relay stuck closed is more dangerous — the element stays energized even when the control board commands it off, causing overheating. F08 appears in both scenarios.
Board vs. Relay Replacement
On some Kenmore models, the relay is soldered to the main board and cannot be replaced independently — the full board must be replaced. On others, the relay is a plug-in component that can be swapped individually. Our technicians identify your specific model configuration and recommend the most cost-effective repair path.
