Kenmore Dryer F07 Error — Heating Element Open Circuit

The F07 error code indicates an open circuit in the heating element. In electric Kenmore dryers, the heating element is a coiled resistance wire that heats air before it enters the drum. When the element burns out or breaks, the dryer runs but produces no heat, leaving clothes wet after a full cycle.

Testing the Heating Element

  1. Disconnect power to the dryer.
  2. Access the heating element (rear panel removal required).
  3. Set a multimeter to resistance and probe both terminals of the element.
  4. A reading of zero or infinite ohms indicates a failed element (typical operational resistance: 7–10 ohms).

Replacement Guidance

When replacing the heating element, always replace the thermal fuse simultaneously — the overheating that burned out the element also likely stressed the thermal fuse. Also inspect the safety thermostat and vent path. Our technicians perform a full heating system inspection with every element replacement.
