Kenmore Dryer F03 Error — Exhaust Thermistor Failure
The F03 error code indicates the outlet thermistor (exhaust temperature sensor) has failed or is reading outside expected temperature ranges. This sensor monitors the temperature of air leaving the drum to prevent overheating and optimize drying efficiency.
Impact of a Failed Thermistor
With a faulty outlet thermistor, the dryer cannot accurately regulate heat. The machine may produce insufficient heat (clothes stay damp), run excessively hot (fire risk and fabric damage), or stop heating altogether and display F03.
Thermistor Testing
- Unplug the dryer and access the outlet duct area (usually behind the rear panel).
- Disconnect the thermistor and test resistance with a multimeter at room temperature (approximately 50,000 ohms for most Kenmore models).
- If resistance is zero (short circuit) or infinite (open circuit), the thermistor has failed.
Replacement
Thermistors are inexpensive and simple to replace. Our technicians carry them for all common Kenmore dryer models and can test both the outlet and inlet thermistors during a single service visit to ensure complete reliability.
