Kenmore Dryer F06 Error — Drive Motor Not Running
The F06 error code indicates the drive motor has stopped or is not receiving proper electrical signals. The drive motor turns the drum and also powers the blower wheel that circulates hot air. Without the motor, the dryer cannot tumble clothes or move air.
Motor Failure Symptoms
- Drum does not spin when the dryer starts
- Humming sound without drum movement (motor trying but stalled)
- Burning smell from the motor area
- F06 appearing after an unusual noise followed by shutdown
Before Concluding the Motor Has Failed
- Check the door switch — a failed door switch can mimic a motor failure.
- Inspect the drum belt — a broken belt means the drum will not turn even if the motor runs.
- Check the start capacitor (where present) — it provides the initial jolt to start the motor.
Motor Replacement
Drive motor replacement requires full drum removal and is a major repair. Our technicians carry common Kenmore dryer motors in stock for same-day repair. All motor replacements are covered by a 90-day warranty.
