Kenmore Washer F15 Error — Drum Speed Sensor Fault
The F15 error code appears when the speed sensor (tachometer) on the drive motor reports that the drum is not spinning at the correct RPM. The washer’s control board continuously monitors drum speed, especially during the spin cycle, and halts operation if speed is outside acceptable parameters.
Causes
- Damaged hall effect sensor (speed sensor) on the motor
- Loose or broken wire connection to the speed sensor
- Drive motor bearing failure causing inconsistent spin speed
- An unbalanced load causing the motor to struggle
Quick Check
Rebalance the load (large items like comforters often cause spin imbalance) and retry the spin cycle. If F15 only appears with heavy unbalanced loads, redistribute the laundry and reduce load size.
Sensor and Motor Diagnosis
If F15 appears consistently regardless of load size, the speed sensor or motor requires testing. This is a technical repair best handled by a certified technician with the proper diagnostic equipment.
