The F3 error code on a Kenmore cooktop indicates the control board detected an open circuit in a surface element temperature sensor. The cooktop cannot monitor element temperature and has disabled the affected zone.
Causes
- Broken or disconnected sensor wire
- Failed surface element temperature sensor (thermistor)
- Corrosion at sensor connector caused by moisture or boil-overs
What To Do
- Note which burner zone triggered the error — the error is isolated to that element.
- Do not use the affected zone until repaired.
- A technician will need to test and replace the element sensor or its wiring harness.
