The E3 error code indicates the ice maker bin full sensor is triggered, stopping ice production. This is sometimes a false positive caused by a stuck or faulty bin-full arm or optical sensor.
Causes
- Ice bin genuinely full
- Ice clumped around the bin-full arm preventing it from lowering
- Failed bin-full arm mechanical switch
- Optical ice sensor blocked by frost or contamination (on optical sensor models)
What To Do
- Remove and empty the ice bin completely, then replace it and verify the arm lowers freely.
- Clear any frost or ice clumps from the sensor area.
- For optical sensor models, wipe the sensor emitter and receiver with a dry cloth.
- If E3 persists with an empty bin, the sensor mechanism requires professional service.
